My thesis statement for my research paper was one of the last thing I wrote. In the weeks leading up to the final draft I really struggled with how to rephrase my question in a way that would capture the reader’s attention. In my first draft, I completely left out the thesis statement until I had rewritten my entire essay and came up with a better thesis statement to use. My rough draft didn’t have any transitions in it because I wrote it like a bulleted list. The class that discussed how to do transitions helped my essay flow better from one paragraph to the next. Without that class I believe my essay would’ve been significantly weaker but I still need to work on my transitions for future essays. The student conferences in my opinion are the most helpful type of feedback. I get to ask questions and figure out how to turn my draft into a stronger final essay. When I’m able to sit down one on one with my professor I’m able to speak freely and really ask questions without worrying about receiving any judgment. To me that creates a better learning environment for me. I am not a strong writer I struggle with sitting down and actually writing a paper without veering off the topic or repeating myself. If I would’ve started this paper two weeks ago and really started it I mean writing a first draft one day then going back and changing it another to add more detail or pictures or better quotes I think my paper would have been better. I would’ve told myself to put more time into this essay because I did really find the topic intriguing and I wish I could’ve written a better essay.
